Some weddings begin when the music starts. This one started the night before.

The Rehearsal Dinner

Family and friends gathered at the Madonna Inn, a Central Coast landmark that’s become part of so many wedding weekends in San Luis Obispo. The rehearsal dinner gave everyone a chance to relax, catch up, and settle into the weekend before the wedding.

The Ceremony

The next afternoon everyone met at The Penny in downtown San Luis Obispo.

The ceremony took place indoors beneath the venue’s exposed brick walls and tall windows. It was personal, emotional, and centered entirely on the two of them. As they exchanged vows, the room grew quiet in the way it often does when everyone realizes they’re witnessing something they’ll remember for a long time.

The Reception

After the ceremony, guests gathered in the courtyard for cocktail hour before heading back inside for dinner, heartfelt toasts, and a packed dance floor. There was a wall of donuts instead of a traditional dessert, a first dance that ended with an unexpected lift, and the kind of celebration that carried through the rest of the evening.

The Penny

The Penny is a wedding venue in downtown San Luis Obispo that blends industrial architecture with warm natural light and an inviting indoor-outdoor layout. The exposed brick ceremony space and private courtyard create a setting that’s both beautiful and easy to photograph, allowing the focus to stay on the people and the moments that matter.

A special thank you to my second photographer, Valentina Ordóñez, for helping document the day. You can find more of her work on Instagram at @valentinaordonezphoto.

If you’re planning a wedding in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, or anywhere along California’s Central Coast, I’d love to hear about your plans.
